Our
VISION:
To Ensure a Pregnancy-free Adolescence
Nationally:
One out of every three teenage girls becomes
pregnant before the age of twenty.
Less than one-third of teen mothers finish high
school.
Two-thirds of all single mothers age 14-25 live
in poverty.
Our
MISSION:
To accomplish our vision by raising
awareness, educating youth and the community, supporting
local service providers and uniting services and resources
Education and awareness can lower our numbers:
Approximately 1140 teenage girls became pregnant in Montgomery,
Autauga, Elmore and Lowndes Counties in 2007.
Teen pregnancy costs these counties over $117 million each year.
Alabama ranks among the top fifteen states in the country for the
highest teen pregnancy rate.
Our GOAL:
To reduce teen pregnancy in
Montgomery, Autauga, Elmore and Lowndes Counties by
one-third by 2010
THE GOOD NEWS:
Teen Pregnancies have decreased by more than 24% since 1999!
Everyone benefits from reducing teen pregnancy:
Crime rates drop.
Citizens pay fewer taxes.
Alcohol and and drug use among teens decreases.
More teens graduate from high school and join the workforce.
